Change in use of agricultural land proves challenging for agro-production leadership

 

CONTIMOUS change of land use from agriculture lo residential, industrial and numerous purposes causing contraction of land holding. The continuous contracting size of land holdings for cultivation, recent loss-en occurred due lo nalural calamities and delay and inadequate amounl of compensation or relief provided by government have become key factor in increasing input cost of agriculture. It would also adversely impact on profit ratio of farmers loo.
Another challenge before advance and more productive farming is limitation of resources that are suppressing due to over exploitation.
Even though agriculture is expanding now in terms of increasing agro-production. The present present focused on agriculture is production rise.
It does not includes processing, value chain addition and agri-business in the chain. For farmers there is utter need on education about these advance methodologies connecting them with market and its benefits. Such exerice would help them to over come losses caused due lo natural calamity, failure of seed. etc.
Contraction of land holding for cultivation has turned into a complex challenge for the whole fraternity. Is also serious threat on food demand for growing population in coming years.
The average size of landholding is contracting the share of agriculture in gross domestic product is declining and number of operational holdings are increasing with every passing day. In recent years the trend which was continued for in last lour decades might have changed and replacement rate has hiked many times. A study in this regard must he initiated in order to draw average size of holding in Madhya Pradesh and its average fall.
Adding more woes for smallholder the quality of production environment is also worsening. The problem of land-and-water degradation is becoming a key constraint in augmenting agricultural production.
The water-table is lowering steeply in most of the irrigated areas, and water quality is also deteriorating, due to leaching of salts and other pollutants.
Agronomists have lime-to-time expressed concern on the declining size of landholdings without any alternative income augmenting opportunity is resulting in fall in farm income, causing agrarian distress. In   Madhya  Pradesh,
small farmers hold major share of farming.
