Rains expose CMC's shoddy
BEING ail industrial district that has four major cement factories, the contractors of Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) are deliberately utilising the cement from outside the State for construction of concrete roads in the city. In fact, the Sagar cement, a Hyderabad based company's cement is being transported in theoutskirt of Chandrapur citv to evade the Local Body Tax (LBT)ofCMC.
After the rainfall, city has got a much time to fill up several potholes that developed in the recent times. But many of them opened up again just two-three days of light rain, leaving local commuters once in trouble and are experiencing bumpy-jumpy rides in the city. This has become a routine process of CMC which does not pay heed. However. CMC is always prompt in records, but regarding the action, apathy of concerned officials has always been noticed in many incidents. After much hue and cry. the CMC had sanctioned many concrete roads and repair of recently constructed main roads under various government projects in the city. The recent rain and developed potholes at major centre like Sawarkar square. Bengali camp and others areas under the jurisdiction of CMC and has exposed the quality of work by CMC.
On the top of this, the contractors of CMC who have shouldered the responsibility to construct the concrete roads are using cemeni that is being transported from Hyderabad it) Ballarpur lebsil.
Sources informed that, a trader from Ballarpur is importing Sagar cement from Telangana State to evade LBT from CMC. Besides, the every contractors of CMC arc using Sagar cement which is being sold at very cheap rate that is Rs 265 or 270 against the local made cement over Rs 300. In tact, the taxes meant for CMC and State Government are being transferred to other States by purchasing cement.
Meanwhile, while constructing the road, not a single officer of CMC visits the site of construction work "CMC has its standard procedure while imposing taxes on any contractors who always imports the cemeni under CMC. However, we are unaware of such malpractices in this regard." claimed a senior officer of LBT branch.
When contacted Rajesh Mohite. Deputy Commissioner of CMC. said. "I will discuss the matter of importing of cement from other State incon-structing of road in the city."
