'Learn to be humble like Mother Mary'
A CHURCH full, with hearts full of devotion for Mother Mary, is how devotees of the Mother of Jesus greeted her on her birthday in several Catholic churches of the Orange City. The Saint Francis de Sales Cathedral. the mother parish of the Archdiocese of Nagpur was no exception.
There were quite a few out there in the Cathedral who's relatives were at that very moment venerating the Mother in Vailankanni at the Our Lady of Good Health Church. Vailankanni in that fishing township in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. While these were out here, their friends and relatives attended the nine-day-long service in Vailankanni, preparing their hearts and homes to celebrate Mamma Mary'sor Vailankanni Mata's birthday with pomp and fervour.
Vicar General. Archdiocese of Nagpur. Fr. Jerome Pinto was at his eloquent best, coming out loud and strong pin what this feast should mean lo the parishioners in the now and for a lifetime.
He reminded them that Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mother of God was bom without Original Sin. it was her humble consent to being me Mother of Jesus that brought about the salvation of mankind, as Jesus, the Son of Gtxl lived, loved, taught and suffered for mankind 10 liberate it from the power of sin and death. It is humility that conquers the power and pride of sin. he reminded and urged the family lo pray die Holy Rosary and learn lo nut into practice what Holy Word of God teaches, so that a family becomes strong to face the power of sin.
Some folks did remember Archbishop of theCatholic Church of Nagpur. Dr. Abraham Viruthakulangara. though most weren't sure whether he was in town or not. Yet. they were sure he would be in town by September 11. when Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Mumbai Archdiocese, the resource person of the seminar entitled 'The Renewal of Family Life: The Need of the Hour', would be in the parish, gracing this seminar organised by the Christian Life Commission for Bible, Catechesis and Liturgy, Archdiocese of Nagpur.
Devotees left the church doors, prasad in hand, preserving some for (heir near and dear ones, who. somehow could not make it to the ceremony and consumed the rest as they were greeted by the nostril-tickling aroma of chicken-curry-and-rice. in which, the chickens seemed to have chickened out of the currv cauldrons at the eleventh hour.Jokes aside, simply sharing that meal together created just the right ambience for meeting and greeting friends from distant corners of the parish. Greeting each other "Happy Feast', left many feeling trulyhappy and feasty enough.
