'Guru Sakshat Swarbramha' on Ustad Aamir Khan mesmerises
GAUD Sara.swat Brahmin (GSB) Sabha Nagpur deserves kudos for bringing alive fond memories of the genius amongst Hindusthani Classical Music Ustad Aamir Khan, whose deep sensuous voice, mingled with his elegam sedate style of delving into Ragas not only gave immense pleasure to connoisseurs but also left a very painful reminder of what Hindusthani Classical music has lost in the passing away of this legend. The hangover of the presentation by Shahbaz khan, son of Ustad Aamir Khan, was so intense that the following rendition of Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty appeared quite pale and his rendition of the 'Raga Megh' which had a vilantlm in 'Akttla Birhoni ke Neiia/i Mai Peer Bluire Badra Barse set to Jhoomra tool and the dnii in teen taal Gagan Garjat Damkat Domini can be said was Passable". Pandit himself accepted the fact that singing after the glimpse of such legendary greats gives a feeling of being 'third class artist However. Pi Chakrabarty came into his own with brilliant disposition of the 'Ruga Bhapali' displaying two different styles of rendering the Sargams that of Ustad Aamir Khan and Ustad Bade Ghulam ali Khan, and went on to render Ragas Kamod. Kedar with a demand from connoisseurs to sing Hart Om Tat sat and a pilu Thumri.
Time constraint did not permit review of the last three mentioned items. Yet one can sum up by saying that the evening belonged more to Ustad Aamir Khan, though Pt Chakrabany was impressive towards the end. Pt Chakrabany was given adequate support on the tabla by Indrnnil Bhadudi and Harmonium accompaniment by Gaurav Chatterjee. scholar of ITC Sangit Research Academy. ShishyaJimut Roy accompanied Pt Chakrabany on the Tanpura. Pt Chakrabany was felicitated with a shawl, shrifal and a bouquet at the hands of Director of South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) Dr Piush Kumar, while accompanying anists were offered bouquet. Shahbaz Khan's Audio visual was a delightful treat to watch and listen. He had prepared the presentation with clips from a documentary made on the Legendary vocalist and one by Doordarshan with superb commentary in the voice of Shahbaz himself. But the presentation virtually drowned lovers of Aamir Khan's music in deep nostalgia as the presentation opened with the Ustad singing the famous immortal classic in Raga Abhogi Outran Char Aye. This AIR recording is a pretty longish piece, sung leisurely with verve and deep emotional impact that gave the listner a feeling of heightened intensity of joy mixed with divine feeling of submissiveness 10 the almighty. It was brought out on a cassette of thirty minutes by HM V way back, which gave a feeling of complete frustration since the main portion of the rendition was just not there. A full length CD of the Raga would be more rewarding to connoisseurs.
The presentation revealed Pt Ravishankar"s comment, that of Ustad Zakir Hussain. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Hari Haran. Vilayat Khan while giving a rare insight of the Ustad doing Riyaz, rendering one of the melodic jems in Raga Multani. The Masterpiece in "Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje. his recording of "Gooj Uthi Shehnai" with a jugal bandi with Shehnai Wizard Ustad Bismillah Khan, with another jugal-bandi from the Film Baiju Bawra with Pt DV Paluskar and the haunting Raga Puria Dhanashree ToriJai Jaikariur from the film Baiju Bawra. just to name a few.
