We have not given bank strike call, says AIBOC
THE All India Bank Officers' Confederalion (AIBOC) said that it had not given any strike call or of am protest demonstration on May 23. 2014, as published in some part of the press. "Though we outrightly reject the report of Dr P J Nayak Panel on "Review of the Governance of the Bank Boards', which has far reaching recommendations on the functioning of the banks and which hits at the root of the lofty intentions and purposes with which the Indian banking system was envisaged, the issue has to be brought to the knowledge of the new Government and discussed before any agitation programme is decided." said Harvinder Singh. General Secretary of AI HOC in a press release.
The bitter memories of the 'Sub Prime Lending Crises' and the financial crises of Europe are still fresh in the minds of the people, the economists and the Government. The conservative and balanced policies of the Reserve Bank India and public sector banks (PSBs) in India apart from the positive role played by the trade unions (TU's) in this country, particularly in the banking industry, have saved the Indian banking system from the financial tsunami. The need of the hour is to strengthen the public sector banks with capital infusion through budgetary sources and not venture into adventures as indicated in the report under question.
The sum of substance of the Nayak Panel report is nothing but a repetition of the Narasimham Committee I and 2 reports, and is aimed at privatisation of the banking industry through relinquishing ownership of the Government. Other recommendations are also detrimental to the interests of the nation. "We have started a mass campaign against the recommendations of the Nayak Panel and will approach the new Government for outright rejection of the same. We believe in negotiated solutions and do not want to take any hasty step in this regard." the press release added.
