Sole gets BJP ticket from Graduates' constituency

 


NAGPUR Mayor Prof Anil Sole has been nominated as candidate for Graduates' Constituency- Nagpur division from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shi'v Sena M a h a y u I i. This seal was represented by former national president of BJP Nitin Gadkari since 1989  and  it will be a matter of prestige to retain this seat.
Congress has already declared candidature of Principal Babanrao Taywade while former IAS officer Kishor Gajbhiye is also in the fray. Dr Narayan Nikam of NCP is also in the race to get party ticket from this coastitueney. The election to three seats of Legislative Council from Graduates' constituency and two from Teachers' constituency is slated on June 20. Anil Sole has to face multi-corner contest in this constituency.
State Election Committee of BJP had given authority to State President Devendra Fadnavis to decide candidate from Graduatess constituency. Devendra Fadnavis decided candidate in consultation with former 8JP National President Nitin Gadkari. BJP National President Rajnath Singh cleared Anil Sole's candidature for the election.
The tenure of Nitin Gadkari ends on July 19. Recently, he got elected as MP from Nagpur Lok Sabha. BJP has a strong hold over this constituency. Gadkari is representing this constituency since 1989 and before him Gangadharrao Fadnavis. father of Devendra Fadnavis represented this seat. Last time. Gadkari defeated Principal Taywade by a comfortable margin.
During 2008 elections, a total 1.75 lakh graduates were eligible to vote and of them close to 95.580 actually participated in the voting. Gadkari received 52,761 votes while Taywade got 28.836 votes. This time, there are 2.77 lakh voters and new voters can enrol till the last date
