CBSE likely to introduce road safety in curriculum



THE CBSE studentswillnowhave to learn lessons on road safety and rules from next session onwards apart from the regular subjects. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) have joined hands to make road safe-tya part of the curriculum for class VI to X. The courses are likely to he introduced in the academic session of 2015-16, and the books on thesubject are currently being reviewed by the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
Government will begin with chapters on road safety in four subjects. They include Hindi, Mathematies, Social Science, and English and for classes VI to X will have the chapters on road safely initially.

Basic curriculum has been chalked out by the International Road Federation (IRF) and InslitiiteofRoadTraffic Education (1 RTF).To create awareness about this, IRF and IRTE are holding workshops for the teachers of CBSF schools. Draft curriculum has been sent to the IIRI) Minister Smriti Irani and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT),andCBSE loo. The UPA government also tried doing so but the initiative got offthegovemmeni radarin2012. The road safety sensitization among the school children also includes compulsory seminars and workshops for on traffie rules, and practical session on road safety.
